The implementation of the International Conference SZE 2021: Energy Supply and Use in Smart Building and Homes between 28 and 29 June 2021 was a sheer success!
This time, the Slovenian Energy Association (SZE) was joined in the organization by TECES and the partnership SRIP Smart Buildings and Home with a Wood Chain.
The conference at the Grand Hotel Bernardin, Portorose, Slovenia, was attended by over 90 participants, and some followed the online programme. The main topic, Supply and use of energy in smart buildings and homes, highlighted current energy topics in the development of smart buildings and homes in urban environments, connections with the digitalization process and presenting the important the role of man in such a modern environment.
Domestic and foreign experts presented 42 professional papers, highlighting trends and innovations in the field. An excellent business environment was created for the exchange of opinions, the presentation of examples of successful practices and networking for the establishment of new business opportunities.
TECES joined the organization of the conference as a strategic partner, as our 20-year mission is to connect stakeholders and create synergies in the field of green technologies and energy efficient solutions.
Enriching the membership experience
Members of all three partnerships under the auspices of TECES Green Technologies, SRIP Smart Buildings and Home with a Wood Chain and the Slovenian Partnership for Energy and Environment in the Field of Defence (SiEnE) will have the opportunity to participate in technical support activities "Towards Green Transition" under the collaboration brand SYeNERGY.
Skilled and competent human resources are one of the key conditions for the growth and successful performance of any business entity. Consequently, TECES is always looking for new paths and has been carefully developing comprehensive services and activities to support human resources development for our members.
In TECES, we continuously keep abreast of the market situation and, above all, the needs of our members. Accordingly, we ongoingly adjust our services and expand our business model by listening to all key stakeholders. In accordance with the main tenet of our work – creating synergies through partnerships – most of our services are developed in partnership with others.
In partnership with Styria digital marketplaces d.o.o., organiser of the Mojedelo.com career event, we have started developing support services that will help our members collaborating through TECES-backed partnerships rise to the challenges they face in human resources development and associated professional challenges.
In May, TECES joined the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance (ECH2A), which brings together stakeholders from industry, national and local public authorities, civil society and other stakeholders. The Alliance is the main consultative body for the implementation of the hydrogen strategy for a climate-neutral Europe, for the development of an investment program to promote the introduction of hydrogen and the establishment of a concrete set of projects.
We were accepted on the basis of the experience in managing the SHIFC platform - Slovenian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Platform, which operated between 2005-2010, and enabled the participation of more than 30 Slovenian partners (companies, institutes, universities, research organizations).
Through the membership in ECH2A, TECES aims to raise awareness at national level of the use of clean hydrogen in the industrial pillars: - hydrogen production; - transmission and distribution of hydrogen; - hydrogen for industrial use; - hydrogen for mobility; - hydrogen in the energy sector; and - hydrogen for residential purposes
The European Clean Hydrogen Alliance (ECH2A) brings together industry, national and local public authorities, civil society and other stakeholders. It is the EU's main consultative body for the implementation of The Hydrogen Strategy for Climate-Neutral Europe, for the development of an investment plan to promote the introduction of production and use of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, and consequently for the preparation of concrete project investements.
Key ECH2A mesures supported by TECES through accession to the Alliance: - implementation of the EU Investment Plan, - stimulating demand and increasing production, - creating an enabling and supporting framework: support programs, market rules and infrastructure, - promoting hydrogen research and innovation strengthening the international dimension.
The ECH2A implementation element consists of six thematic working groups/round tables including the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to end use.
Hydrogen is gaining more and more attention in Europe and around the world. It can be used as a raw material, fuel or energy carrier in transmission and storage and offers many possibilities for use in the industrial, transport, electricity and construction sectors.
Most importantly, it does not cause CO2 emissions when used and does not pollute the air. It offers a solution to decarbonise industrial processes and economic sectors where reducing CO2 are necessary and difficult to achieve. As a result, hydrogen is becoming an essential element of the EU's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050.
Nevertheless, hydrogen now accounts for only a modest proportion of the global and European energy mix and is still produced mainly from fossil fuels, especially natural gas, or coal, and emits 70 to 100 million tonnes of CO2 a year in the EU. We have seen periods of increased interest in hydrogen in the past, but this has not materialized. Today, however, the rapid reduction of energy costs from renewable sources, technological developments, and the urgent need to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Members of all three partnerships under the auspices of TECES, such as SRIP Smart Buildings and Home with a Wood Chain and the Slovenian Partnership for Energy and Environment in the Field of Defence (SiEnE) will be informed about ECH2A activities and opportunities for integration.
TECES will follow the findings of learning events and working groups (6) aiming to facilitate research, development, and innovation cooperation projects.
The first such event planned is a meeting of all ECH2A members in line of the European Hydrogen Forum between 17 and 18 June 2021.
On the 30th anniversary of independent Slovenia, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (CCI) has prepared a selection of the most ground-breaking economic achievements. The project Home24h - Smart Home of the Future for a comfortable and healthy living environment, whose partnership is coordinated by TECES was also included.
TECES participated during the ideation of the ground-breaking project idea, establishment of consortium and coordination of the project application submission. The Slovenian CCI selection confirmed the importance of the project, which combines technological solutions of 12 Slovenian companies into a conceptual uniform building.
The project pursues the goals of sustainable construction and at the same time provides a smart, connectable, and user-friendly advanced living and working environment. The selection also confirms the 20 years long synergistic role of TECES as a link between companies and research organizations in creation of breakthrough projects.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of independent Slovenia, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia set up an outdoor photographic exhibition, at which the Slovenia's economic progress during its independence is presented. TECES is proud that the project Home24h - Smart Home of the Future for a comfortable and healthy living environment is also included. The Home 24h is displayed on a large billboard on the platform in front of the CCI building entrance in Ljubljana.
We are extremely pleased that the importance of the Home24h project, which combines the technological solutions of 12 Slovenian companies into a conceptual and uniform building, has been recognized and confirmed in this way. On the one hand, project ensures sustainable construction, and on the other hand, a smart, connectable, and user-friendly advanced living and working environment is provided.
Home24h combines several modes under one roof: living in a single-family house, doing work from home, and active spending of free time. The residential building is fully energy and information managed and supplied, connected to the environment on several levels, represents the basic cell of electro-mobility, follows the goals of a net zero-energy building, built-in devices and appliances are connected to the cloud (Internet of Things) and digital twin. With these characteristics, the residential building can be integrated into smart energy contracting as part of the wider local environment.
Home24h represents a visionary solution for future living, especially in the light of climate changes, digitalization trends in the business world and private life, and last but not least in the light of epidemiological experiences.
The easing of the epidemiological situation enabled the Home24h consortium to hold the regular, now 21st meeting of the Project Council in the old manner, ie live. The Project Council is an important consultative body and includes representatives of all 12 partners. The TECES as project coordinator on a monthly basis provides the guidance and monitoring of the implementation of planned activities, follows the project objectives to achieve the set results.
As the coordinator we are proud that after 28 months of project implementation, the planned steps and the set plan is fully meet. Project management, of course, requires minor corrections as well as the management of any major tectonic shifts. However, the coordinator envisages all this in the risk management activities incorporated in the very logic of implementation of such a large and complex project.

Most of the construction, assembly and integrative works will be completed this year. Next year the activities that will ensure that Dom24h will truly be a smart home are to be completed. If we draw the line under the current project management, we can say that the Home24h project is successful and exemplary managed and coordinated by the TECES as coordinator in cooperation with the leading partner of Marles House Maribor, d.o.o.
The confirmation of stated was received at the Home24h building construction location. After a successful Project Council meeting the Home24h construction site was visited by the consortium for the first time. Under the expert guidance of Marles hiše Maribor, the partner representatives got acquainted with the current state of construction.
The building itself and its furnishings are very impressive and only on site they come to life. The object presented in the project documentation is something completely different than on site visit, where seeing and feeling already integrated solutions is possible.
We are already looking forward to witnessing the next phase and furnishing, when after a meeting in the business part of the building, in the residential part on the stove with built-in hood, we will make a coffee and drink it with our partners on the landscaped outdoor terrace.
